Gretchen Kirk
Executive Director
Gretchen Kirk is a native of Mobile, Alabama, but has lived in the Memphis area for 35 years. A graduate of the University of South Alabama, Gretchen began her career as a teacher in the Mobile County Schools for 13 years. 2 years after moving to Memphis she became the Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Germantown, Tennessee.
It was here during her 19 year term that she became involved with Project Outreach. Her friendship with Sr. Elaine Wicks began in 1984 and that led to a supportive relationship with the mission and ministry of Project Outreach. Gretchen has served as the Director of Faith Formation for St. Agnes Academy – St. Dominic School for 13 years, where her passion for service became an important part of her legacy to the school. She also has served as Chairman of the board for Martha’s Manor, a day activity program for women with intellectual challenges. Now retired this mother of 6 adult children stays busy with volunteering and being a grandmother.
Teresa Wilson
Board Chairperson
Teresa Wilson was introduced to deafness and began her career as guidance counselor at Tennessee School for the Deaf in 1974. After a brief hiatus, she continued her career as guidance counselor in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program at White Station HS. Retiring after 32 years in education, she accepted the executive director’s position at Deaf Connect of the Midsouth, a nonprofit providing sign language interpreting and community services for members of the deaf community. After a brief retirement, she filled the Interim Executive Director position for Harwood Center, a nonprofit providing education, therapy, and support to children with developmental disabilities. Upon the director’s return, she moved into a consulting position supervising Harwood’s PreK class within the Journey Community School system – a position which she currently holds.
